Mini apple falafel

Mini Apple Falafel Recipe

" An apple a day keeps the doctor away"

Well quoted. But what if you don't like apples but still have to eat it anyway.
Apples are used to make apple pies or cakes sweets or consumed as it is but I thought of using apples completely new way by making stuffed apple falafels.

Falafel is a Middle Eastern dish similar Indian tikkis made from chickpea (chole channa) or beans and potatoes and herbs and fried. Falafels are great in wraps, sandwiches or pita bread (pocket bread)

My recipe of Apple Falafel is gulten free, vegan and suitable for Indian Jain Cuisine

This is my version of falafel, I would prefer eating apples only this way.
Let's begin with recipe.

Ingredients

✓4-5 Mini Apples

✓5 med size Boiled Mashed Potatoes (for

✓Jain version use boiled 6-7 raw bananas)

✓Dry Spices - Salt, Pepper Powder, Sugar, Baking Soda(1 tspn), Half tspn - Red Food Color (optional), Cumin Powder (jeera powder), Chilli Powder/Chilli Flakes, Cinnamon powder (Tej powder), Chaat Masala - As per taste

✓ 2 tspn Lemon Juice (tspn - normal spoon)

✓Corriender and chopped mint leaves

✓5 tbspn - Chickpea Flour (besan) or Corn Flour for binding (tbspn - big spoon)

✓Oil for frying

Process

Step 1:- Cut and process Mini Apples

Wash mini apple and cut them into round thin slices as shown in picture. Discard off their seeds.

As you cut the mini apples directly put them into Salt - Lemon mix water for further use. (to avoid getting brown or oxidation)

Step 2:- Make Falafel Base

In a bowl take some mashed potatoes or boiled raw bananas and add all dry ingredients (salt, pepper, red food color (pot), chilli powder/flakes, baking soda, lemon juice, cumin (jeera) powder, cinnamon (tej) powder, sugar Chaat masala, Chopped mint, Corriender everything as per your taste. Add 3-4 spoon of corn flour or (Chickpea flour) Besan (use more if required) add 1 spoon of oil and mix all the ingredients very well. Make sure it is like a dough. The dough or Falafel Base will look red in color.

Step 3:- Make Apple Falafel Balls

Takeout 1 portion of  falafel dough make a big round  ball and press it flat, place one mini apple slice and cover it with excess dough. Cover the apple nicely so that it doesn't break while frying. Prepare other falafels tikkis in same way.

Step 4:- Fry/Cook Mini Apple Falafel

3 ways to cook

1. Deep fry
Now when you have prepared all apple and falafel dough tikkis it's time to fry them. Heat oil and deep fry on medium flame for 3-4 mins. Make sure outer layer is crisp.

2. Pan fry

Heat a pan place all falafels drizzle oil and cook them both sides for about 10 mins.

3. Bake in oven

Pre-heat oven for 15 mins place all the falafels on an oven tray drizzle oil over and bake at 425 F for about 20-25 mins.

Step 5:- Garnish and Serve

After you cook you Mini Apple Falafels it's time to garnish it. Garnish with some Chaat masala or Corriender. Enjoy with chutneys or it goes best with Hummus and mayonnaise.
Use Mini apple falafels into wraps or between sandwiches or burgers. A healthier option. This would be best way of consuming Apples

Tips

• Combination of boiled mashed potatoes and boiled raw bananas can be used

• If making non-vegan version add some cheese into dough for that cheesy taste.

• Make sure your apples are in salt-lemon water till you use it.

• Though mini apples are perfect for this recipe but normal big apples can be used, instead of slicing round and thin, chop big apples into small cubes and fill them into falafel dough/mix make flat balls out of it and fry.
