Shingara and Coconut Balls Recipe


There are so many varieties of grains available in Indian markets which are generally not consumed on daily basis, but should be included in our diet simultaneously as they have numerous health benefits.

One such grain flour is Shingara/Shingada ka atta or Buckwheat flour commonly called as Kuttu ka aata Shingara flour has various health benefits it can be easily digested, gluten free, can be consumed in vegan diet and one of the important sources of fiber especially while fasting.

Generally Sabudana/Tapioca and Potato dishes are prepared for fasts but try this new healthy and simple recipe made out of Singara flour and coconut they are easily available in market at grocery stores.

Shingara flour and Coconut Balls

SERVES :- 4 PEOPLE

COOKING TIME :- 1 HOUR

INGREDIENTS:-

5 Cups of Shingara/Buckwheat flour 

3 Medium size potatoes boiled and mashed 

1 freshly grated Coconut

200 grams Khoya/Khava

3-4 Chopped Green Chilies

1 Cup Coriander Leaves 

Salt - Pepper powder - Lemon Juice - As per taste.

8-10 Chopped Cashew nuts or Kaju

Oil for frying

METHOD

STEP 1 - PREPARE BASE

In a big bowl take 4-5 Cups of Shingara/ Buckwheat flour add mashed potatoes salt pepper powder and kneed thick dough. Use water only if required. Rest it for 5 mins.


STEP 2 - PREPARE FILLING

Heat a pan add freshly grated coconut, chilies, 200g of Khoya, Coriander leaves, chopped kaju/Cashew nuts, salt and saute for 5 mins on medium flame.

Filling for balls is ready.

STEP 3 - ASSEMBLE AND FRY

Take a small portion of Shingara - Potato dough roll it round and press it flat (just like we roll out small puris/cookies) place 1-2 spoons of coconut filling in middle and seal the sides and make round balls. Make similar other balls. Then fry till golden brown for about 2 minutes.


Your Shingara Flour and Coconut Balls are ready to be served along with green Chutney.

NOTE :- FOR JAIN VERSION USE RAW BANANAS INSTEAD OF POTATOES.
